OVERVIEW
The NHS National Library for Health, now NHS Evidence Information for Health, is an information and knowledge service aimed at health and social care staff and, to a lesser extent, patients. Its online presence acts as a portal to reliable resources emanating from the NHS itself and from trusted external sources. These range from voluntary sector health organisations and self help groups to the BBC Health website. The service is currently [Spring 2011] under review.
Vision
The vision of the NHS National Library for Health is as follows:
- To deliver a modern, equitable knowledge service to all NHS staff and those that deliver care to NHS patients.
- To extend NHS library services to patients and the public.
- To be built around customer need.
- Integrate library services with Connecting for Health, commissioning and service management.
- Simplify access arrangements for students and staff working partly in the HE/FE sector.
- Reach NHS staff who do not regularly use knowledge services.
- Be financially efficient.
Its business objectives are:
- To become the knowledge resource of first choice by NHS staff.
- NLH content to be ubiquitous within NHS portals and clinical applications.
- NLH to be a customer driven service.
- To deliver an innovative, skilled and technology enabled library service to all customers.
- Enable safer, better healthcare.
