OVERVIEW

Jorum is a JISC-funded service in development in UK Further and Higher Education, to collect and share digital teaching and learning materials, allowing their reuse and repurposing across the sector. The JORUM repository forms a key part of the JISC Information Environment, and is intended to become part of the wider landscape of repositories being developed institutionally, locally, regionally or across subject areas.

How JORUM is managed

Jorum is currently available to UK FE and HE institutions, and is based on an institutionally registered User and Contributor licensing model. It is run jointly by Mimas and EDINA, the two national data centres based at Universities of Manchester and Edinburgh. Jorum uses a system called intraLibrary, which is supplied by Intrallect Ltd.

JORUM consists of two services:

  • JORUM contributor
  • JORUM user

The former, as the name suggests, is for those who wish to add to the repository and share their resources. Contributors also include metadata about the resources they upload. The latter service provides access to the repository for those wishing to download and use resources locally. Resources can be freely used in an educational setting. In addition an R&D team are responsible for ensuring that JORUM keeps up to date with technical developments.
