Overview

The Encoded Archival Description (EAD) is a machine-readable coding schema for archival finding aids. It uses XML and is maintained by the Library of Congress in association with the Society of American Archivists. EAD elements can be mapped across to descriptive standards such as ISAD(G) and to other machine-readable coding systems such as MARC21. The latest edition is the 2002 schema.
