OVERVIEW

The Digital Economy Act was published in April 2010. The Act includes provisions relating to the UK’s communications infrastructure, public service broadcasting, copyright licensing and online infringement of copyright, and security and safety online and in video games.

Remaining compliant with the Act

So that public sector bodies with responsibility for managing digital content can be sure they comply with the requirements of the Act, the Strategic Content Alliance has commissioned an advice note from Naomi Korn as part of its IPR publications series. The guide outlines four steps for organisations to help understand the implications of the Act for them:

  • How the organisation's internet access is received and supplied
  • What is the organisation's role in relation to the Act
  • Understand the potential risks and costs associated with receiving and supplying Internet access and the organisation’s obligations
  • Take practical steps regarding internet access to minimise the organisation’s exposure to the risk
