OVERVIEW
Understanding the audience for which digital content is aimed is essential if it to be a success and audience research should be undertaken early in the planning process to inform prioritisation of what content is made available and how it is presented.
The Strategic Content Alliance has developed the following resources to support audience research and needs analysis:
- The Guide to researching audiences
- The Guide to researching audiences: case studies
- The Guide to researching audiences: illustrative case study
When considering a universal audience (e.g. children) an organisation may segment it (e.g. in age ranges) in order to present content in the most appealing way. Segmentation may result in the same content being presented differently to different audiences (e.g. content supporting the National Curriculum may be accompanied by teaching notes for teachers but without these for a more general adult audience).
